• Timing: These tablets are typically taken 3 days before the expected period and continued for up to 14 days (usually 5-10 days). The usual dose is 1 pill 3 times a day. After you stop taking them, the drop in progesterone levels triggers menstruation and usually returns within 3 days of finishing the course. If you take norethisterone less than 3 days before your period is due, then it's unlikely to delay your period and may experience a bleed.

Utovlan is the branded version of norethisterone and contains the same active ingredient.
